Living in Jiashan China
Living in Jiashan China – It’s been a little over 4 months of living in Jiashan County, Zhejiang Province, China. It has been quite an interesting experience of living in China so far.
Since I’m teaching English at a private university, my salary is pretty low compared to other ESL instructors teaching at a training school. If you’re not familiar with the ESL industry, working hours at a university are usually much lower than a training school.
Living and working in Jiashan is quite comfortable. Once in a while, it’s difficult to handle and manage the “lazy” and “bad” students. Other than that, Jiashan feels like a quiet small city.
In my opinion, there’s not much to do in Jiashan. It seems like many people enjoy drinking in their spare time. I’ve started to drink quite more often while living in China.
The bars that I’ve been to are quite an experience. Sunflower seed shells all over the floor, the whole room filled with cigarette smoke, and everybody playing some kind of dice game with cups.
Living Expenses in Jiashan China
As for my living expenses, I’ve spent about:
- August: 18,000 RMB (had to pay for rent and housing appliances)
- September: 10,000 RMB (had to purchase for housing appliances)
- October: 12,000 RMB (had to book our flights for Thailand)
- November: 17,000 RMB (had to pay for rent)
- December: 5,000 RMB
- January: 20,000 RMB (our expenses for Thailand)
If I really wanted to be frugal and save while in China, I think our living expenses can be up to 4,000 RMB (around 580 USD).

I’ve been using the DJI Osmo Mobile 3 for making most of my videos.
